Time passes so fast as in it is 2023. Time flies when you are having fun. I must be having a blast. This blog is about the wonder of horses and childhood memories that make up the people that we are today. Growing up in East Asheville, NC, I was born in the early 60's and never remember a time my family didn't have horses and always a family barn dog and can't forget the barn cat, an occasional calf or pig. My dad was a horse trader not by profession but loved to buy, sell and trade on horses and tack.
We have a small Buck House that he used to trade from. The mid sixties we as a family begin leasing out our horses to the public by the hour. ($4.00 and hour) I remember riding across the Blue Ridge Parkway as a guide as many as 8 times a day on the weekends as the guide. We met so many wonderful, even famous people by having Parkway Riding Stables. So many neighborhood teens hung around the stables because of their love for horses. My parents at the time had no idea what an impact this had on so many lives and how many lifetime friends we would make. I still stand amazed that my mom fed the five of us and whoever was there to eat every day. Oh how I appreciate the raising of this country girl.
Below is a photo of Shawn showing the old sign that hung on the barn for many years for the public to see before riding. So many memories in this photo session.
